Le Chiuse’s Rosso “Sferracavalli” 2024 is a Rosso IGT from Montalcino, born from Sangiovese Grosso and the agricultural history of the Biondi Santi family.

Le Chiuse is one of Montalcino's most distinctive estates: a property linked to the Biondi Santi family, located between Canalicchi and Montosoli, in an area where Sangiovese Grosso has deep historical roots. Sferracavalli originates from this context, but with a more immediate and everyday approach compared to the winery's grander wines: a red designed to express the juicier, more saline, and spontaneous side of Le Chiuse.

The wine is made from Sangiovese Grosso and takes its name from the road and the location of the estate. It is a straightforward, territorial red, to be enjoyed without ceremony but with a true story behind it: the vineyards, the clay-limestone soils of Montalcino, massal selection from Greppo, and the work of a family that has continued to preserve an important part of the Brunello tradition.

Appellation: Toscana Rosso IGT
Grape Varieties: Sangiovese Grosso
Alcohol Content: 13%
Vineyards: Montalcino, Le Chiuse area between Canalicchi and Montosoli; Sangiovese Grosso vineyards on clay-limestone soils, rich in fossil material, with the presence of galestro and tuff.
Winemaking: fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete; "salasso" (bleeding off) from Brunello grapes returns to the exhausted skins and is processed like a red wine; 12 months aging in the youngest barrel.
Serving Temperature: 14-16°C
The Winery: Le Chiuse

Le Chiuse is a historic Montalcino estate, linked for generations to the Biondi Santi family. It was part of the properties from which grapes destined for the Greppo Riserves originated, before passing to Fiorella Biondi Santi and then to her daughter Simonetta Valiani. Today, the winery is run by Simonetta and the Magnelli family, in a secluded and deeply characteristic location, between Canalicchi and Montosoli. The vineyards are entirely dedicated to Sangiovese Grosso and grow on soils of oceanic origin, with clays, galestro, tuff, and fossil material. Le Chiuse is a winery of memory and measure: it does not seek to force Montalcino, but to preserve its most classic, agricultural, and family-oriented voice.
