Lava Parcela “Lomo de Los Ingleses” 2023 by Bodega Lava is a D.O.P. Gran Canaria made from Listán Negro grown at high altitudes on volcanic soils.
Lomo de Los Ingleses 2023 comes from the small, precise world of Bodega Lava, in Gran Canaria, where siblings Mari Carmen, Guillermo, and Juan Manuel Martín Monzón work to tell the story of the island through parcels, altitude, and local varieties. It is not a generic Canary Islands red: it comes from a specific 'paraje', Lomo de Los Ingleses, in a volcanic and oceanic landscape where viticulture has a completely different voice compared to mainland Spain.
The wine is made from Listán Negro, grown at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters on the northeastern side of the island. The winemaking process maintains a handcrafted, minimally interventionist approach: the wine ages for a year between a 500-liter barrel and a 150-liter 'tinaja', preserving the direct, mineral, and deeply insular character of the parcel. It is a bottle that speaks of black earth, Atlantic air, and Bodega Lava's desire to give form to the individual places of Gran Canaria.

The Winery: Bodega Lava
Bodega Lava is a small family-run winery in Santa Brígida, Gran Canaria, managed by siblings Mari Carmen, Guillermo, and Juan Manuel Martín Monzón. The project stems from the desire to give voice to the island's viticulture, recovering the family's agricultural heritage and working with local varieties in a territory of altitude, wind, and volcanic soils. The vineyards are located on the cooler, greener northern side of Gran Canaria, with parcels such as Pinosanto and Lomo de los Ingleses. Lava wines represent a different, oceanic and mineral Spain: not continental, not predictable, but deeply connected to the island's black earth.
