Lava Tinto 2023 by Bodega Lava is a red wine from Gran Canaria made from local varieties grown on high-altitude volcanic soils.

Bodega Lava operates in Santa Brígida, in the north of Gran Canaria, on an island where vines grow in an extreme landscape: volcanic soils, significant altitudes, oceanic influence, and small plots that tell a story of viticulture far from the more common images of continental Spain. Lava Tinto 2023 is born from this mineral and island energy, with a prevalence of Listán Tinto alongside Baboso Negro and Vijariego.

It is a red wine that brings the freshest and most vertical side of the Canary Islands to the glass: grapes cultivated between 700 and 1,200 meters above sea level, on soils marked by ancient volcanic lava, and a winemaking process designed not to erase the island's character.

The Winery: Bodega Lava

Bodega Lava is a small family-run winery in Santa Brígida, Gran Canaria, managed by siblings Mari Carmen, Guillermo, and Juan Manuel Martín Monzón. The project stems from the desire to give voice to the island's viticulture, reconnecting with the family's agricultural heritage and working with local varieties in a territory of high altitude, wind, and volcanic soils. The vineyards are located on the cooler, greener northern slope of Gran Canaria, with plots such as Pinosanto and Lomo de los Ingleses. Lava wines offer a different, oceanic and mineral Spain: not continental, not predictable, but deeply connected to the island's black soil.
