La Ca' Nova's Barbaresco Montefico Bric Mentina is produced from Nebbiolo grapes cultivated in a small portion of the Montefico MGA called Bric Mentina.
Compared to the Montestefano by the Rocca brothers, the Montefico stands out for its greater elegance and lighter structure and power. As for the vinification, it actually changes little from its sibling, as it always proceeds in steel with sub-cap at the end of fermentation, and aging in large barrels.

The Winery: La Ca' Nova
La Ca' Nova is a small family-run farm founded in a 19th-century farmhouse in the center of Barbaresco. The Rocca family began labeling wines in the 1970s. The vineyards cover an area of about 14 hectares, including plots in the Barbaresco crus of Montestefano and Montefico (the latter more precisely within the Bric Mentina vineyard). The former is south-facing and produces slightly more powerful and deeper wines than those from the south-east facing vineyards of Montefico, which yield more elegant wines. Vinification proceeds without temperature control during fermentation, after which the technique of sub-cap is used, keeping the skins submerged for 15-20 days after alcoholic fermentation for greater extraction. The wines are then aged for at least 18 months in 3000-liter barrels.
