Red Wine "Bacca Nera" 2023 Toscana IGT

Bacca Nera is a red wine produced by Marco Verona in the Candia area, on the Apuan Hills in Massa.

Made from the vinification of various indigenous varieties such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Massaretta, but also other varieties atypical for the Candia area, such as Montepulciano, Merlot and Syrah, Bacca Nera is a wine that comes from a heroic vineyard in the Candia Hills, with plants of different varieties that create a kind of puzzle in the vineyard. Vinification takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks without the use of selected yeasts.

The Winery: Marco Verona

Marco Verona cultivates indigenous and non-indigenous varieties of the Apuan Hills in his small winery perched on the terraces overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vineyards are cultivated under a total organic regime and perhaps more, on those "piane", as they are called here in Massa, which look down on the city and in the background the Tuscan coast. The view is breathtaking, on clearer days you can see the Island of Elba and Sardinia; according to Marco's stories, the sea breeze blows almost continuously, and I, Yuri, can only confirm it as I spent 27 years at my grandmother's house in Candia. Marco's wines for me are hope and memory. The link with tradition is strong, but so is the desire to change, to offer labels with a more contemporary but never trivial style, a desire for freshness and fruit that is not constructed, a desire to finish the bottle in 2 minutes sitting in front of a good fish dish or bread and salami... it's all the same, they are versatile, simple but at the same time layered and changeable.
