White Wine "Per Medè" 2022 Tuscany IGT

Marco Verona's Permedè White Wine is produced from a terraced vineyard in the Candia hills, in the municipality of Massa.

Permedè is the "older brother" of Sedì. The same grape blend: 70% Vermentino and the remaining Trebbiano, Malvasia di Candia, and Albarola. There's a small change in the vinification process, where fermentation in steel is followed by aging in wood. Like Sedì, this wine speaks of the sea and Mediterranean scrub, but this type of vinification makes it more complex and gastronomic.

The Winery: Marco Verona

Marco Verona cultivates indigenous and non-indigenous varieties of the Apuan Alps in his small winery perched on the terraces overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vines are cultivated under a total organic regime and perhaps even more so, on those plains, as they call them here in Massa, which overlook the city from above with the Tuscan coast in the background. The view is breathtaking; on the clearest days, you can see Elba Island and Sardinia. From Marco's accounts, the sea breeze blows almost continuously, and I, Yuri, can only confirm this, having spent 27 years at my grandmother's house in Candia. Marco's wines represent hope and memory for me. The connection with tradition is strong, but so is the desire to change, to offer labels with a more contemporary yet never trivial style, a desire for unforced freshness and fruit, a desire to finish the bottle in 2 minutes while sitting in front of a good fish dish or bread and salami... it's all the same, they are versatile, simple yet layered and ever-changing.
