San Fereolo's Coste di Valanche White Wine is made from a blend of Riesling and Gewurztraminer.
In recent years, we have come to appreciate one of the best white wines that the Langa region has given us, thanks to the invaluable help of Nicoletta Bocca: the Coste di Riavolo. For me, it was the reliable white, the one that always surprised me, the one I took to blind tastings to convince those who said white wine blah blah blah no maceration no wait natural wines no wait because... shut up, drink, and take home a beautiful memory. The CDR vineyards were, to say the least, massacred by flavescence dorée, and consequently, Nicoletta copied and pasted, reusing the same grape varieties but in different soil. A land that few consider, and many consider more "unfortunate" compared to the Langhe, that of Rocca Cigliè. The result is Coste di Valanche, a wine very dear to Nicoletta, and now very dear to me too. Unfortunately, very few bottles are still produced, but the desire to get back in the game with a white that is both unconventional and fits my taste is there, and I want to drink a demijohn of it.
