The Winery: Wasenhaus
Wasenhaus is a winery located in the Baden region of Germany, founded by Alex Götze and Christoph Wolber. The two met in Beaune, France, during their studies and worked at renowned Burgundy wineries such as Comte Armand, Bernard van Berg, Leflaive, and de Montille. The winery was established in 2016 when Alex and Christoph decided to leverage the potential of Baden's old vines, a region characterized by a unique microclimate and complex soils ranging from granite to marly limestone and volcanic soil. Their philosophy is based on organic farming with biodynamic practices and low-intervention winemaking, aiming to best express the finesse and elegance of their wines. Wasenhaus primarily focuses on grape varieties such as Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder), and Chardonnay, cultivated in small plots near Staufen im Breisgau. Their wines are known for their lightness, clarity, and finesse, and have quickly gained a reputation for excellence in the German wine scene.
