Roero "Black Souls" Heroic Vineyard 2023

Manuele Priolo's Roero Anime Nere is a red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes in Monteu Roero.

Anime Nere comes from a heroic Nebbiolo vineyard planted on a ridge of Rocca in Monteu Roero with prohibitive slopes of up to 35%; the soil is typical of this area, where the predominance of a sandy matrix in the upper profiles is accompanied by blue marl in the lower profiles. Roero Anime Nere is in its first vintage of production and is in fact one of the most beautiful expressions of the entire denomination. Vinification takes place entirely in a 15hl wooden barrel and after malolactic fermentation, it is topped up with a part fermented in steel. In total, the time spent in wood is just under a year.

I seriously think Manuele Priolo's project is one of the most beautiful born in recent years. The guy is not afraid to get his hands dirty and work hard in the vineyard, spending a lot of time researching and analyzing every small detail in viticulture... and Manu, sorry to say it, but here we are bordering on NERD!
