Quartz 2021

Quartz is a white wine produced by Domaine des Ardoisières using the Altesse grape variety, one of the indigenous grapes of the Savoie region in France.

The vineyards are planted on south-southeast facing terraces with slopes reaching up to 60%. The name Quartz refers to the steep, rocky hillside where the grapes are grown, with quartz boulders emerging from the soil and imparting minerality to the wine. Quartz has a brilliant pale yellow color and a delicate, complex aroma reminiscent of white flowers, white-fleshed fruit, and aromatic herbs.

The winery: Domaine des Ardoisieres

The Domaine des Ardoisières winery is located in the Savoie wine region of France and was founded in 1998 by a group of wine-loving friends, including Michel Grisard, a renowned Savoie wine producer. The winery takes its name from the slate mining area located near the vineyard. The winery is situated in a particularly challenging area for viticulture due to the continental climate, which alternates between very hot days and cool nights. However, the Domaine des Ardoisieres vineyards are located on steep slopes at about 500 meters above sea level, meaning they benefit from the unique terroir made of clay and slate soils, from which the winery takes its name. The care and dedication of the winemakers to cultivating indigenous grapes, such as Jacquère, Altesse, Mondeuse, and Pinot Noir, along with sustainable and organic farming techniques, have allowed the winery to produce wines of great personality that are internationally recognized. Currently, the winery cultivates approximately 17 hectares of vineyards, divided into individual sectors to enhance the unique character of each terroir. The winery produces white, red, and rosé wines, characterized by great freshness and minerality. Domaine des Ardoisieres has become a benchmark in the Savoie wine region, thanks to its dedication to quality and its use of traditional and ecological production techniques. Its fine wines are sought after both in France and abroad and represent the true essence of the Savoie wine region.
