Comando G's Mataborricos Red Wine is made from a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena.

We are in the La Mancha region, where old Garnacha vines, many of them ungrafted, are cultivated at over 900 meters above sea level, in search of an elegance often difficult to find in this grape variety. The winemaking is natural in open amphorae. Mataborricos is about selection, elegance, and freshness.

Comando G Viticultores was founded in 2008 by Daniel Gomez Landi and Fernando Garcia, friends since their studies in Enology and Viticulture at the University of Madrid. They share the same land, the Sierra de Gredos, and the same idea: to make wines that reflect the sense of place, the landscape, and the identity of the vineyards. This land, located in a mountainous area ranging from 900 to 1000 meters above sea level, about a hundred kilometers east of the capital Madrid, boasts an incredible heritage of old vines, many of them centenary and ungrafted.

Their philosophy is to make "pueblos, parajes, parcelas" wines, meaning, to draw a parallel with Burgundy, to produce wines of communal appellation (Village), district (1er Cru), and parcel (Grand Cru). The 5 hectares of vines, plus additional rented land, are located in mountainous areas, sometimes very rugged and difficult to reach. They are cultivated biodynamically and worked with horses to avoid damaging the sandy granite soils. Naturally, no pesticides or chemical plant protection products are used.

It is precisely in these altitudes that Daniel and Fernando began working the vines with the aim of demonstrating how the underestimated local Garnacha (Grenache) variety could reveal itself to be elegant and refined. This is precisely the direction taken by the introduction of amphorae in winemaking and aging, to find the maximum purity of expression. The amphorae used by Comando G are unburied Spanish tinajas, produced by Padilla (the same ones used by Foradori), yielding wines that aim to reflect their belonging to the place where Daniel and Fernando always seek freshness and minerality.
