Le Piane's Boca is a red wine produced in Alto Piemonte, in the Boca area, from Nebbiolo and Vespolina grapes.
We had long understood that the Langhe was not the only small parcel of land where Nebbiolo expresses itself at its best, after various comparisons with Gattinara, Valtellina, Ghemme, etc. In Boca, a small town in the province of Novara, Nebbiolo is always paired with a local grape, difficult to work with in the vineyard as well as in the cellar, but which is part of the local history and tradition: Vespolina, which gives floral and spicy notes. Le Piane is one of the wineries that best represents this small appellation, expressing in a single sip all the elegance of Nebbiolo and the minerality of the territory.

| Vineyards: | one is about 30 years old located on Traversagna, municipality of Prato Sesia, between 400 and 450 m a.s.l. (0.4ha), while the other is about 50 years old at Le Piane (old vineyard of Antonio Cerri) between 420-470 m a.s.l. (0.3ha). The newer vineyards are located in the most suitable subzones of Boca: Mottosergo, Meridiana, Valvecchi and Traversagna. The soils have a low pH and consist entirely of porphyry gravel (of volcanic origin), slightly red, full of minerals but without organic matter and calcium. |
| Vinification: | spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maceration on the skins for 30 days in an open 25hl wooden vat and in open 20hl stainless steel vats with manual punching down 1-2 times a day. Ageing in large 20hl-28hl Slavonian oak barrels for three or four years, bottle ageing for one year |

The Winery: Le Piane
Christoph Kuenzli and his friend and enologist Alexander Trolf visited the Boca region several times in the early years, enthralled by its incredible beauty. After meeting Antonio Cerri, they decided to continue what that historic producer had started, buying from him what is now the core of Le Piane, and then adding small vineyards in the best locations of the Boca DOC. Today, the winery boasts a vineyard area of 9 hectares and, after Alexander's tragic passing, is entirely managed by Christoph Kuenzli and his team of 5 people, who oversee all production processes, from vineyard to cellar.
