Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is born in the homonymous cru of Monforte d'Alba.

The Piero Benevelli winery is located in Monforte d'Alba, on the road leading to Roddino and Serralunga d'Alba. Massimo and Denise, husband and wife, are warm-hearted people deeply attached to their land and all its historical traditions. Their wines are traditional, with a focus on natural winemaking, without the use of selected yeasts or filtration. In the cellar, only actions necessary to protect the wine's quality are performed, and in recent years, their wines have been increasingly recognized. Massimo's wines are honest, enhancing their native terroir.

The 2018 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte, which I remember is the fourth vintage as the first time the MGA was indicated on the label was for 2015, originates in the eastern part of the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. The Le Coste vineyard has varying exposures, ranging from southeast to southwest, and the soil is tuffaceous, composed of white calcareous marl. As with the other Barolos, Mosconi and Ravera, fermentation occurs with submerged cap in stainless steel without selected yeasts, with a total maceration that can vary from 30 to 40 days depending on the vintage. Aging takes place in large oak barrels for about 24 months. Barolo Le Coste is the one that immediately proves to be more approachable, with a more open nose and lighter tannins. Acidity plays a fundamental role, being higher due to a slightly more clayey soil composition compared to the other Barolos.
