The Barolo "Capalot" 2018 from Walter Viberti's Santamaria winery is produced with grapes from the municipality of La Morra.
The Santamaria winery is located in the northern part of the municipality of La Morra and cultivates only the Nebbiolo grape, from which Barolo, Barolo Riserva, and Langhe Nebbiolo are produced. The vineyards are all located in the Capalot subzone, where wines of great elegance are born. Walter produces wine naturally: in the vineyard, only copper and sulfur are used, while in the cellar, fermentations take place without the aid of selected yeasts, and the wines are aged in steel or, in the case of Barolo, in medium-sized barrels.
The Barolo Capalot 2018 is as cool as it gets at this price! With style and character to spare, what surprised me most was the depth of this wine. Walter's style is probably what can garner the most consensus among tasters' palates: fruit and dark notes, spices, pepper, cassis, and licorice, with a wine of excellent structure.
