Rosso Alpi Retiche by Barbacan is a red wine produced in Valtellina from Chiavennasca grapes.
Barbacàn works in San Giacomo di Teglio, in one of the highest areas of Valtellina, where the vineyards are arranged on terraces supported by dry-stone walls. Work in the vineyard is manual, given the steep conformation of the slopes. Besides the fact that I can no longer do without the Instagram and TikTok of the "Barba brothers", which I highly recommend you follow, Valtellina truly shines here. Their Chiavennasca, which as far as I'm concerned you can call Nebbiolo but don't let them hear you, is blended with indigenous local grapes found only in Valtellina, such as Rossola, Rossolino Rosa, Pignola, Brugnola and Negrera. Viticulture is heroic and organic, while in the cellar the processes are traditional and absolutely non-invasive. When drinking a Barbacan wine, don't forget where it comes from: in Valtellina there is rock, there are granite and schist, there are minerals, just like in a glass of their Rosso.
