Langhe Nebbiolo "Il Crutin" 2024

Giovanni Manzone's Langhe Nebbiolo "Il Crutin" is produced in Monforte d'Alba, with grapes harvested from the younger vineyards in the Gramolere subzone.

During my cellar tastings, I essentially skipped a vintage, the 2020 Nebbiolo, not for any particular reason, but simply because Mauro and I never managed to meet. I remembered a good 2019 Nebbiolo, with structure, but still slightly influenced by sweet woody notes; tasting the 2021, I realize that the fruit is now more prominent, the wood has almost disappeared, and the Monforte terroir is evident, although it is graceful, not "planted there and now who can move me," a correct and understandable choice when talking about Langhe Nebbiolo.

The winery: Giovanni Manzone

The Giovanni Manzone winery was founded in 1925 in Castelletto, Monforte d'Alba. Over the years, it has always cultivated red grape varieties typical of the Langhe, such as Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo, obviously focusing on Barolo. In parallel, it has pursued the recovery and development of an almost forgotten white grape variety, which is now produced under the Langhe Rossese Bianco label. Mauro and his father, Giovanni Manzone, are now at the helm of the winery, personally handling all aspects of vineyard cultivation, which are all located around the winery in the Castelletto and Gramolere subzones, and winemaking. Historically, the winery has a sustainable approach to viticulture.
