Bodegas Bernabeleva was born in 1928 in San Martin de Valdeiglesias, southwest of Madrid. San Martin was born in the twelfth century with the foundation of the Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria de Valdeiglesias, in the Sierra de Gredos which is one of the most important mountain ranges in Spain. Bernabeleva means "bear road" since many bear sculptures are still found in the local woods. After decades of abandonment, the company restarts in 2006 thanks to the grandchildren of the old owner, who decided to revive the company starting from 35 hectares of Garnacha which were planted in 1928; the vineyards are therefore about 80 years old and are located between 400 and 700 meters above sea level on sandy soils of granite origin. The new owners decide to rely on two prominent figures of Spanish oenology: first of all Raul Perez, one of the greatest oenologists in Spain, and Marc Isart, magician of the Garnacha expressed with the utmost elegance. The viticulture is organic, while in the cellar the vinifications have very long submerged cap macerations in conical vats, while the refinements often take place in barriques. In addition to Garnacha, some white berried grapes are vinified, such as Albillo and Macabeu.

Bodegas Bernabeleva Navaherreros Tinto 2018 is a red wine made with Garnacha grapes from the south-west area of Madrid. I drank this wine the first time at the Aromatario blindly and honestly I almost confused it with a Nebbiolo. Freshness of the fruit is the main thing, with live tannins and yes, a good part of the plant typical of Garnacha

Bodegas Bernabeleva Navaherreros Blanco 2017 is a white wine made with Albillo and Macabeu grapes from the south-west area of Madrid. It is a wine with a good impact on the nose, straight, almost semi-aromatic. It can partly recall hints similar to Riesling, fresh and of exotic fruit at the beginning, without however veering on hints of hydrocarbons
